Why Prostitution Should Not Be Legal

Although, legalising prostitution reduces violence and provides protection, it promotes human trafficking. According to Law Harvard, a reporter, Carol Tan says, “Countries with legalized prostitution are associated with higher human trafficking inflows than countries where prostitution is prohibited. The scale effect of legalizing prostitution, i.e. expansion of the market, outweighs the substitution effect, where legal sex workers are favored over illegal workers” (Does Legalized Prostitution Increase Human Trafficking). This evidence shows that when prostitution is legalised, then they are related to higher human trafficking activity. They are other situations like a nigerian 13 year old, Ope, was trafficked by her own parents because her parents needed money to support themselves.
